Diamond Mountain Wear

Do you have school spirit? Show it off with a Diamond Mountain University t-shirt, sweatshirt, or boxer shorts. Our good friend Ben Worden has set up an online apparel shop at Cafe Press . com. You can select from many different types of wears and from two different logo designs; one featuring a yogi riding a tiger and the other featuring Durga slaying death. I bought the former for my whole family and the later for myself recently. Check it out.

PS. I don't make any money on this, I just think they great. You can even make your own design if you have an idea.

DM Teachers in Peru

It's amazing what you can find late at night on the internet. I just happen to stumble upon a blog post by our friend Andrés in Lima, Peru. The post is about the visit of Venerable Phil Baker and Guy Wheeler and their teachings in the Peruvian capital. Naturally, the post is entirely in Spanish, which I can't read. I sent it through Google's translation tool and it actually worked pretty well, it's comprehensible.

Enjoy. Thanks Andrés.

More Work, the Party Never Stops

We had a good time last weekend digging, moving, wiring, etc. Such a good time that we purposely (hmm) left more work to be done. I just got this email from Volunteer Coordinator Earle:
Thanks to all you folk that were able to make it to DM to dig trenches, repair yurts, and build roads. If you feel like you missed out last weekend... we are doing it again this Sat! (we only got half way done). Same gig as last time - we'll meet at 11:00 at the parking lot.
This time I recommend long pants and shirts to avoid both sunburn and gnat bites. See you there.

For more info and pics on we went down last work day, check the previous post.

Work Party + Gnats = Itchy Progress

Today was a successful work day at DM. Even with all the Diamond Mountain volunteers scattered around the globe we had a good turnout. If you include the gnats as volunteers we had hundreds of helpers. The two main projects of the day were digging a ditch for a power cable to the kitchen yurt and creating a road reinforcement. To put it simply, one job was to dig a hole and the other was to fill a hole.

There are some photos up at flickr if you'd like to see what went on and experience the fun without the incessant scratching.

(Work) Party This Weekend

It'll probably be more work than party, but there may just be punch and pie. Volunteer Coordinator Earle sent out this email calling for recruits:

In order to start to prepare for the term and to repair some of the damage from the recent rains, there will be a work day next Sat the 12th (and Sun the 13th). There is lots of yurt space available to stay on the land for those who wish to do so.

Please let me know asap if you are interested in helping out so that we can have enough projects, materials, and dinner to keep everyone happily busy and fed.

So, if you want to come, send an email over to Earle, shunyata%vtc.net (replace % with @). See you this weekend.

Assessing and Repairing

If you didn't read the last post you may not know that DM received a lot of rain in the past few days. A lot. There hasn't been a rain like this, in these parts for over 20 years. This mixed blessing brought much needed water in excess and that excess did some damage to the road at Diamond Mountain.

Today we went armed with shovels, picks, and a bobcat to try to mend and rebuild some of the less destroyed sections of our thoroughfare. Success! Now with a little more work the road should be functional again. That is, until the next big rain.
